Welcome to the Grossdeutschland Aufklärungs
About our group.
Our unit strives to portray as accurately as possible rifle men of the Aufklarungs (reconnaissance) within the elite ‘Grossdeutschland’ Division that mainly saw active service on the Russian front during World War II.
Our members have many reasons for joining the group. Some have a keen historical interest in WWII, some have interest in the weapons and tactics used, others join for the ‘Kameradschaft’, but the main aim is to share knowledge and research about the conflict and the soldiers that fought in it. We also attempt to set high standards in all areas our portrayal - from uniforms and equipment to our living history displays and battle reenactments.
Now
in it's seventh year of existence, the group can trace it origins back
to the year 2000 when it’s members decided to portray
soldiers of the Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland. Unhappy with the
direction of this group, some then went onto to form the group we now
portray in 2005.
2011 saw our numbers rise above 30 members and become one of the largest Axis re-enactment groups in the country with some of the highest standards in dress and presentation. 2012 will see us undertake some of the most exciting and respected shows in the UK such as the English Heritage ‘Festival of History’ and the Victory Show.
As you will see from the pictures on our site we attend many varied events throughout the season, from tactical weekends, to public displays and have also taken part in TV, film and magazine work as extras.
We are always on the lookout for motivated recruits and vehicle owners with historical knowledge and a genuine interest in WWII and especially ‘Grossdeutschland’ and the war from the perspective of the Eastern front, so if you have any questions or are interested in joining a rapidly growing independant group with an equally rapidly growing and varied events calendar, come along to one of our shows and see us for a chat.
If you can't wait for that, why not get in
touch or browse
our forum, either way we look forward to hearing from you!
